| Chalk-talk, An Entertaining Program Of Color, Light , And Sound Presented By Steve Cooper |
Chalk-talks are entertainment programs that illustrate a particular theme, story, or event by the use of art, special lighting, and music.
The actual program consists of a brief, humorous talk on the theme of the event, Then I use chalk to paint a picture that illustrates that theme. The painting typically takes 15-20 minutes to complete and is 36" x 48". As I am painting, music that complements the theme of the painting plays. After the painting is completed I have special lights on my easel that will perform a small light show with the painting, showing the illustration under various colored lights as the music continues to play.
There are lighting and sound considerations that must be in place for a chalk-talk program to be successful. The room must be able to be darkened, by dimming the lights and blocking sunlight or other outside lighting, and there should be at least 15 feet of space between my easel and the first row of the audience.
It is a mesmerizing program full of color and sound, and is appropariate for both adults and children. It is a great after-dinner program for club meetings or banquets. Some of the groups that I have performed for are Rotarians, Kiwanians, Chambers of Commerce, Indian Guides, and many churches of various denominations.
